There are about 14.000 families in the world with the family name
Beckmann or Beckman.
The name is of German origin and are part of the oldest group of family
names,the so called domicile-names (Wohnstättennamen. The first part of
the name (Beck) has its roots in Westfalen; the ending (mann) has also
its roots in Westfalen.
The fact is,that the Beckmanns worldwide have all the same roots.(Realy
unbelievable, but true!)
The oldest Beckmann known is a so called Ratman Jakop Beckmann who
visited Riga in 1527 comming or living in Dorpat.

Who knows whether there are Beckmann roots - some where in the world -
older than 1527?

We are searching (as a starting point) for Beckmanns who settled in the
(now a days) Latvija (Riga etc) or Russia (St.Petersburg) in the 19th
century or earlier.

Where is a Beckmann family which has relation to that area?
Where is a Beckmann family in which it is known that brothers when to
the east?

Any reply is most welcomed,from any Beckmann in the world (and will be
answered).
