Ancestry of Charlemagne to Ancient Lines
Here follows the ancestry of Charlemagne as compiled by Peter Gérard Gentala (RockSword on America OnLine). I have seen various digressions, which I have noted in each section. For the most part, however, there are not too many inconsistencies. If anyone knows of a source which gives additional information or has different information, please let me know. I will then update this file and republish it on the board. Look also for future files which I will post in which other lines will go back to the Roman Emperors. Also, if anyone knows of the lines in between the Julian Family and Aeneas, please let me know. I realize that they are only legendary, but I'm sure that they are out there.
Each line begins with a number 1. Each time a female is added in the line of ancestry a 0 is added and each time a male is added a 1 is added; thus, 11 would be the father of 1, and 10 would be the mother of 1.
Due to sources, some dates are given as A.U.C. (which stands for Anno Urbis Conditae - In the Year of the Founding of the City [of Rome]). The year of the founding of Rome was 753 B.C (=1 A.U.C.). Thus, just subtract the year A.U.C. from 754 and you will obtain the year B.C.

Variations: Some sources give the parents of Pepin of Landin as Ansbertus (11110-011) and Blithilde (11110-010).
Blithilde (11110-010) is sometimes listed as the daughter of Cloderic the Parricide, K. of Cologne (11111-11111) and of N.N. (11111-11110).
Argotta is sometimes listed as the daughter of the King of the Cimbri, which may or may not be the same as Genebald, D. of the Franks (11110-01111-101).
One source listed Merovaeus (11110-01011-11) as the son of another Merovaeus who was the son of Clodius, K. of the Salic Franks (11110-01111-1).
The ancestry of Ansbertus varies in different sources &endash; these variations are given in parts IV and V.

Note: The existence of Julia Venissa (11011-0) as a daughter of the Emperor Claudius is debatable. I have not found one historical account stating that Claudius had a daughter. However, many times daughters were overlooked in annals, and it is possible that had he a daughter, she would be married to a Brittish chief to cement the Roman overlordship of Britain (Claudius was the director of the final conquest of Britain in A.D. 43). If this is the case, I would assume that his daughter would have been wed to Arviragus soon after A.D. 43 and thus would not be the daughter of Agrippina, whom he married in A.D. 49.
Part III: Ancestry of Julus, High Priest of Rome 1 Julus, High Priest of Rome 10 Roma 11 Ascanius, K. of Latium, d. 1170 B.C. 100 Lucretia 101 Italus 110 Creusa 111 Aeneas of Troy 1101 Priam (Podarces), K. of Troy 1110 Aphrodite, Goddess of Love 1111 Anchises of the Royal House of Troy 11011 Laomedon, K. of Troy 11100 Dione 11101 Zeus, K. of the Gods 11110 Themis, one of the Titans 11111 Capys of the Royal House of Troy 11011-1 Ilus, founder and K. of Troy 11100-1 Epimethius 11101-0 Rhea, one of the Titans 11101-1 Cronus, one of the Titans 11110-0 Gaea (Mother Earth) 11110-1 Uranus (Father Sky) 11111-1 Assaracus, Prince of Troy 11011-11 Tros, K. of the Trojans 11100-11 Iapetus 11101-00 = 11110-0 11101-01 = 11110-1 11101-10 = 11110-0 11101-11 = 11110-1 11110-01 Chaos 11110-11 = 11110-01 11111-11 = 11011-11 11011-111 Erichthonius 11100-110 Tethys, one of the Titans 11100-111 Oceanus, one of the Titans 11011-1110 Batea 11011-1111 Dardanus, founder of the Trojan race 11100-1100 = 11110-0 11100-1101 = 11110-1 11100-1110 = 11110-0 11100-1111 = 11110-1 11011-11101 Teucer, 1st K. of Trojans 11011-11110 Electra, one of the Pleiades 11011-11101-0 Idaea, a nymph 11011-11101-1 Scamander (Xanthus), a river god 11011-11110-1 Atlas 11011-11110-11 = 11100-11
Note: I gave the genealogy of the Trojan family as stated in tradition; this includes the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. One may totally discount these genealogies as pure myth, but more than likely, when a legendary character is said to be the child of a god or goddess, one may glean from this that they are the child of the high priest or priestess of that particular deity. Thus, one may ascertain that Aeneas was not the son of Aphrodite, but rather the son of the high priestess of the temple of Aphrodite; also, Teucer may have been a son of the high priest of the river god Scamander or possibly may just have been born in a village on the Scamander (a child of the Scamander).
Part IV: Variations on the Ancestry of Ansbertus (Ausbert) 1 Ansbertus (Ausbert), Gallo-Roman Senator 10 N.N. (possibly Deuteria, as listed in part I) 11 Tonantius (Totantius), b. of Ruricius, Bishop of Uzes 101 Clodorcius 110 Papinilla of the (Amici?), sister of Ruricus, Bishop of Limoges 111 Tonantius (Totantius) Ferreolus, Consul (453), relative of Sidonius Appollinaris 1110 N.N. 1111 Ferreolus 11101 Flavius Africanus Syagrius, Gallo-Roman Consul (381)
Variations: One source gave the mother of Tonantius (11) as N.N., the daughter of Avitus, Emperor of Rome.
Part V: Variations on the Ancestry of Ansbertus (Ausbert) 1 Ansbertus (Ausbert), D. on the Mosselle, d. 570 10 Lucilla 11 Wambertus (Hugobert), D. on the Mosselle, d. 528 110 Argotta of Verona 111 Adabertus (Albero), D. on the Mosselle, d. 491 1101 Theodoric, K. of Verona 1110 Basina of Thuringia 1111 Clodius the Long Haired, K. of the Salic Franks (Westphalia) (428-448), b. 380 - d. 448 (445? or 447?) 11101 Wedelphus, K. of the Thuringians 11110 Argotta 11111 Pharamond, D. of the East Franks
Variations: One source makes Adabertus (111) the son of Pharamond and Argotta, not the grandson.
Note: The number of generations from Ansbertus to Pharamond is the same as in Part I. It is possible that all the people listed here should be equated with those listed in Part I, there being only a difference in names by which they are known in different sources. Thus, Wambertus would be the same as Ferreolus; Lucilla would be Deuteria; Adabertus would be Sigimerus I; Argotta would be N.N.; and Theodoric, K. of Verona would be Ferreolus Tonantius, Consul (453).
