Subject: Palmer to Verney to Stradling, etc.

I am descended from William Palmer Jr. and Judith Feake of Watertown, MA and Queens Co, NY. It is alleged that William is the son of William Palmer Sr. and Frances (?). I have been told that this was according to the Dictionary of National Biography. This proved to be inaccurate. The Dictionary of National Biography does not make reference to this union or descent.

Further it is theorized that William Sr. was the son of John Palmer and Elizabeth Verney. Continuing back, that John is the son of Thomas Palmer and Catherine Stradling.

Is there any validity to this family line? Is it just conjecture without proof?

Ever the skeptic,

***************************************************************************

I am descended from William Palmer and Judith Feake. They married in Watertown, Middlesex Co, MA sometime before 5 December 1639. Judith was from the Feake line of goldsmiths. Her uncle, Robert came to New England with the Winthrop Fleet and he married Henry Winthrop's (son of Gov. John Winthrop) widow. My problem is I cannot prove William's ancestry.

It is suggested, but not proven, that he was the son of William Palmer, Sr. and Frances ? (married about 1606? in England).

William Palmer Sr. is said to be the son of Sir John Palmer and Elizabeth Verney (again unproven). John and Elizabeth married about 1577? in England.

I note that this is unproven in as much as I was directed to some source material that did NOT prove these lines. Does anyone recognize this line and is there proof available to back up this claim. If so, is there ancestral information on the Palmer/Verney lines?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Stephen Emery
